Tony Wedral - The Next Step | EP Review

Tony Wedral releases his debut EP The Next Step next week, so we took a sneaky listen!

Lead track Unlocked, which Tony premiered in mid-December has a folk/indie sound, as well as a few electronic beats dropped in too (read our full review here).

Moonlight Sky is slow-building and despite its various layers of instrumentals, it maintains a laid-back feel throughout. Tony's almost whispered vocals on lyrics such as "Hold me as the night flies by / we are so in love / under the moonlight sky" give the song a very therapeutic vibe.

I Don't Need To Know opens with a grungy, electric sound but following a short pause, erupts into an abundance of sonic beats. It's certainly addictive and wouldn't be out of place in clubs, with compelling synths that will have you dancing from the first listen.

The EP is concluded by fourth track Brokenhearted, reminiscent of Ed Sheeran but more foot-tapper than tear-jerker, particularly on the last chorus which would undoubtedly have crowds joining in.

For a debut EP, The Next Step is a pretty mixed bag with its crossover from indie to electronic. However, this in no way means it's unworthy of credit. Having taken much of last year to work on songwriting and music, Tony Wedral has proven he's more than 'just another funny Youtuber'.
